    Grinder In a Box Questions

Hey all, I'm back after an unfortunate and unwanted extended vacation.:35: I'm getting ready to order the grinder in a box kit here shortly from Jamie, and I had some questions. I had emailed him, but he's busy, or maybe it got caught in his spam folder so I figured I'd ask here. I'm...

    Question on "Period Correct"

My friend participates in Rondezvous which reinacts the fur trapper period from about 1800 to 1840s. Anyway....a long time ago I bought him a damascus blade at Smokey Mountain Knife Works, and I want to handle it now since he goes in for surgery Thursday. I have some nice Ironwood root that...

I wish this on none of you

After 24 hours straight of having the stomach flu, I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy. I have no idea how I got it, I haven't been around anyone even remotely sick. Needless to say I dropped almost 15 pounds in 24 hours, and I got a heck of an ab work out! Ruined my weekend completely. I...

    Micro Mesh

Has anyone used the micron belts supplied by micro surface? I used to use their sanding pads in my pen making, and I'm sure these would make it much easier to polish since their Aluminum oxide belts go up to 12,000 grit which is sub 3 microns. A 2x72 belt is $11 and change, so pricey...

    Where to get Titanium standoffs

As the title says? I don't have a lathe, so I can't make my own. Does anyone sell titanium standoffs? I guess I could purchase the rod and then drill and tap, but I was hoping for something slightly easier.

    D-2

I've been debating on what steel to try. I can get D-2 locally for I think $9.35 a lb. in 1/4" thickness, less for 1/8" obviously. If I buy a drop, I get 10% off. Is this a decent price? I'm thinking about trying D-2 first before going to the newer CPM steels. Any suggestions or links to...

    Suggestion

Another forum I'm a member of moves the for sale posts that have been sold to a sub-forum of the for sale forum for archival purposes. This cleans up the for sale forum, and doesn't leave a lot of junk laying around. I think it would work here, because as I was looking at posts and...

    Making a list

Ok. So I've got the basic large tools I need to start making some tactical folders. I'm making a list of what else I will need so I can buy a bit from Tracy every paycheck. I'm kind of lost  as to what size screws and drills and taps and other miscellania I'll need for a liner...

    2x42 belts

Since Tracy doesn't seem to carry the 2x42 belts, what other suppliers offer them at decent prices. The only place I've seen them is at supergrit.com. Do they even make the blaze belts in the 2x42 size?

    New Grinder

Well given the way things have been going lately with big money household emergencies (dryer/water heater/car), a NWG build or KMG clone build were out of the picture for quite some time until I build the emergency kitty back up to where it should be. It's so bad, I've even put my NWG plans and...

    Is it ok

For a "tactical" knife to have damascus bolsters? Too blingy? Thinking Carbon Fibre scales with damascus bolsters, and a black oxide blade. What say you?

    USPS Rant!

I ordered from Tracy on Monday, USPS picked up the package 3/2 at noon, and I still have yet to see it. Why call it priority mail if it's not your priority to get it to me? I'm sorry, but this is just the latest in the longest line of things. I shipped out 20 packages in the past...

    Heat Treat Question

I plan on sending out my first few blades for heat treat, but after that I plan on building the heat treat oven from the brittish blades plans. I'll be winding my own kanthal wire into elements. I found a guy on ebay selling the 16 gauge Kanthal A-1 for 9.99 for 25 ft. Has anyone found a...

    First ever flipper design

This is a knife that I've had in my mind for a long time. This is probably the reason why I'm going to buy all the stuff to make my own knife. My Marine buddy who's done three tours in the sandbox affectionately calls it the HAAJ. Let me know what you think. It's a very rough draft that I...

    Grinder Motor

So would this be acceptable for a NWG motor? https://www.surpluscenter.com/item.asp?UID=2348022815460649&item=10-1582&catname=electric

    Few Grinder Questions

Ok..too much research=brain overload. So that leads me to a few questions. First question. Is the 8" contact wheel Tracy sells the same thing I'd get from sunray? I figured I'd ask here not to bother him at the moment. Second. I think I could get the Grizzly 10" contact wheel bored out...

    Harbor Freight Portaband

Currently the Harbor Freight portaband is on sale for $74.99. I have a 20% off coupon from one of my magazines which will make it ~$55. Is this a worthwhile purchase for knifemaking? I intend to use it to make my NWGKMG clone hybrid doohickey once the plans get here (hopefully tomorrow!)...

    Hello From Ohio

Hi Guys and Gals! My name is Justin, and I came here because I just purchased a set of NWG plans from Tracy. I've been interested in knives since I was a little boy and got my first pocket knife which was my grandfathers back in the day. I've decided to get into knife making because...
