WIP Bowie knife

I just found this WIP, very impressive work, Dennis. Looking forward to seeing the rest of it.

I finally have the guard ready to rough shape. The pins start in the guard and run fairly straight. Looks pretty good.

Got the holes drilled in the elk. Do you remember the blue dots?? They were very close to where the holes ended up being placed.

Here is the shape that I am hoping to get on the spacer. Here is a tip. Put the sharpie away. It soaks into the elk and the g10. It requires a lot a sanding to erase the ink. Go with pencil. Much easier to erase. I learned the hard way...

Rough ground. Starting to look like a Bowie knife.

I have to admit, I only had one small strip of 1/4 inch blue G10. I normally start with a bigger piece and size it down to fit. I stretched the blue G10 a little bit. I was a bit nervous to start. But it looks like it is going to work out. Whew!!

I have a ways to go. But, it is starting to look like a knife.

16 inches of goodness.

Dennis you had the vision on this one! I know from my experience as a contractor. Some times no matter how you explain what you are about to do, most folks can't see the finished product in your head. I was unsure about this one. However as an ole buddy use to say, "you done good on this one"! Thumbs up.jpg

Spent some time hand sanding the blade and guard. Up to 600 grit and then finished back at 400 grit. Preparation for soldering on the guard.

FYI: The picture of the signature side has funny lines on it. Not really on the knife. Just a crummy picture.

This part geeks me out. I suck at soldering. No matter what, it will look horrible. Chuck it into the vice on top of a couple pieces of scrap. Get it level and tight. Clamp it down.
