My nephew is taking welding at the highschool so we are trading a knife for the building of most of my new grinder.

Another lockback folder. This time I used mammoth ivory. This isn't finished, but it's close.

Having a hard time w/ pics and text.

This is a Nickel silver sheath for a knife I did a couple years ago.
It has a removable throat held on with 2 1-72 screws to service the lambskin (veg. tanned) lining.
The clasp is patterned after the Will and Finck type and one Bruce Bump did on a ring hilt dagger.
I used brass for the knob and a coil spring for the clasp.
Hard silver soldered

Those are really nice Josh! Really diggin' the one on the far left and the one on the far right. What are the blade steels and finishes on those two?

Thank you! I was experimenting a little with those two. Both are 1095. The far right was deep etched in ferric multiple times. It's a little rougher than I intended but came out kinda cool in the end. The one on the left was a light ferric etch followed by mustard applied with a q-tip.

Another fine mess you've gotten us into Ollie!
The rookie is pushing further out of the comfort zone. A bit thick but leaves room to fix screw ups. .110 AEBL 11.5 OAL 6.5 Blade chef knife the wife liked how her moms felt but hated it was dull.
Gotta keep momma happy w my hobby. Lol

.110 is a good thickness for a chef. I prefer it that thick and then give it a distal taper. any thinner than that and i run into too much flex.

Some more not knife related shop stuff. Getting prepared for a match in Utah. 2000 rounds of 38 supercomp.

BTW, Walt- what's the idea behind the metal tab at the heel of the blade?

John, its an exact copy of the knife her mom has. I am gonna talk to her about it a lil more an see about doing away with it since its a pain to clean up in the small crevice by the transition of curve to straight.
I wanted 070 for fillet and boning knives but Aldo was out at valentines day. Lol

I called them yesterday and it sounds line they won't have any for a LONG time. I'm trying to decide what to do now. I use a lot of it.

Aldo seems to be the only one who has AEBL in 48" L others have it but in 12 to 18"L. You might try seeing if your local steel supplier can get a sheet of .070 and shear it for you in desired widths.
Canadian knifemakers supply has .070 aebl razor steel in 2"widths produced by uddelholm(sp) I just found.

I'll look into that but local suppliers haven't been very helpful in the past. You're doing better than I am if you've found .070 in any length. I can't find any at all lol.

Well that's frustrating. I've been trying to find it in the .050 or thinner for quite a while now and now they don't even have .070.

Chris

Got these two all finished up and pictures done. Both are 0.187" 1095. The top one is stabilized koa and my first tapered tang. The second one is some amazing waterfall bubinga. Pictures don't do it any justice.
