What's going on in your shop?

Another wrapped eye hatchet .270 thick 1084 with an additional piece of 1084 forge welded in to add mass to the bit. Hoping to get it mostly finished after walleye fishing with my Grandpa tomorrow

I forged out a tomahawk drift a couple years ago from a Tank track pin, it’s a smaller drift that makes an egg shaped eye, I’m heading out to the shop in a few I’ll take a pic of it. Wind is blowing 19mph so Fishing has been cancelled, saved me an hour drive to Grandpa’s, was gonna go anyway and help him work on a trailer for his little pond hopper boat but he said wait til this weekend.

ok question about the hidden tang and guards. How are you guys milling out the slot for the tang?

My biggest issue would be keeping an almost zero gap b/t blade and guard and I could see that being pretty challenging with just a drill and file.

My ocd can't take even the smallest gap with bolsters or guards!!

So, I ended up getting a mini-mill and use it to mill a slot to start. However, at the end of the day, the fit-up is all hand filing. You can definitely drill and file to connect the holes, and I've done that. Just make sure you start out with the holes (and slots) being smaller than your tang. Then you hand file to fit the guard to the tang. This should probably be thread on it's own.
