What's going on in your shop?

Heat treating 5 A-2 blades tomorrow morning. I've bolted them together hoping to minimize warping. I will only need one SS packet to cover them all to Keep them from oxidizing in the oven. I'm going to leave them together for liquid nitrogen soak and tempering....I spaced them with ss washers so I can get air between them. the forward lug gets ground off after hart treat.

Something a bit different..Medical gauze.

We buy this gauze by the case for my wife's surgical wounds and other medical needs. So I decided to give this a try today when I was doing the final cleanup on a blade prior to etching my mark. If used sparingly it's not that expensive. That's why I suggest it just for final cleanup. I use paper towels prior to this.

So far so good. It's very lint free and quite soft. I don't see it leaving any fine scratches behind. About $6-9 on Amazon for a package. Probably wouldn't use more than four to five to a blade side. So if you were generous and used ten per blade, that's twenty blades per pack.

And...a large mistake on this knife today. I went to put my makers mark on this blade and messed it up. Leaving a very large etch on the blade that wasn't part of my mark. So I took it to the grinder and ground the mess down and am now finished re-sanding and ready to etch.

Then I discovered that my home made etching machine blew a fuse and I don't have an extra here at the house...

So onward tomorrow.
