Tried some Oxynate 7 bluing salts.
The colors came out but only barely. This was likely my fault. I need to practice with these salts a bit more.

I sanded off that finish and went to the Nitre Blue Salts and got much better results.
This is san-mai piece with lot's of nickle powder and foil. The metals were mild, A2, 01 with a 1084 core.

Wow!

Built a new stump for my anvil. I had a pretty light duty metal stand had built that was much too springy. This is so much better. I had to try it and since I was firing up the smoker first thing this morning, I started early. I have a penchant for rustic, early American/blacksmithy type knives. So I made my very 1st forge and files only knife. Got punched holes and all. I will finish the bevels on the 2x72 stone wheel. :) 153C4322-3E00-42F8-8725-18F5FFA67B8F.jpeg2450ED53-C4D2-492C-AAE8-AB72759443E7.jpegE9973092-5308-463B-BE46-6E1CAA0FEBF3.jpeg8A89D51D-C19E-477D-8D8F-2A46A770D88B.jpeg

Randy - Killer gift. There are several internet sites that give their heat treating recipes. Knife Dogs has a few. I had to look for my first shot at stainless. I think Bossdog has some of them on his website, also.

Thanks Dennis. The manual has a lot heat treating schedules. I’ll look around. Lots of reading to do.

USA Knifmaker and Alpha Knife Supply have a few recipes. I think Kevin Cashen has several on Knifedogs, somewhere. When I got my oven, there was an online printout with several of them. It has been a while. Maybe it was on a CD with the oven. I will have to look when I get home.

At my boys Wrestling tournament now, between matches Im looking on here this is what I’m working on now, I made a nice guard and handle and a nice blade last week, problem was that once it was all glued together, it didn’t match at all. So I made a bowie blade and started over on the handle, same materials including the other half of the handle block I split for last weeks knife
