The night before last year's Blade Show in The Pit, I met and made a new friend, Canadian collector Roger Pinnock. It was then Roger saw something I had made, a new tomahawk model I called the Warhawk.
Roger played with this thing for about 10 minutes, and I could tell by the smile on his face that he liked it2thumbs!
Shortly after Blade,Roger sent an email inquiring about the price of this model. After a couple of emails an order was placed, with delivery around the first of March the following year.
Here is what I made for Roger, and he had it shot by Coop.
The haft is 19 inches of some of the most spectacular curly maple I have ever seen, and the forged textured head is 9 inches of Ford pickup leaf spring steel.

When Roger's spot in line came up, he asked if I could make a display stand for this piece. Sure I can!

The stand is made from Mississippi River driftwood, an elk antler tine, and a piece of forged keystock.
I am very happy with the way this set turned out, and so was Roger2thumbs!A large matching belt knife and sheath will soon join this set!

Hey John,
This is an excellent piece. There is no question why he fell in love with it. I was already inspired by your other hawk's to try one myself and it is turning out looking very much like a first attempt. Can't wait to see the belt knife and sheath that go with this. Amazing work. Wade

That is awesome John. The maple is truly spectacular itself. Roger is one lucky customer.

John, the maple and everything else about this piece is spectacular. Having such a beautifully integrated stand means I get to enjoy looking at it just about every day. It was a pleasure working with you and congrats again on the excellent hawk. Looking forward to the matching belt knife. :bud:

Thanks guys, I appreciate the compliments!Roger, it was a real pleasure for my to work with you on this as well, and also look forward to the belt knife project!

That hawk is incredible, John. It is one of the nicest hawks I've seen. That maple is amazing and the stand just completes the hawk. Can't wait to see the knife and sheath.

I'll echo all the other comments, a really nice hawk.

John, I really like the looks of this hawk! Can't quite figure out how the bit is fastened to the haft. Is the haft slotted or slit?

Thanks all! Ray, the haft is slotted and the head is pinned with 4 steel pins.I actually took a cue from you to simplify making these things. I used to drill the slot with a 1/4 inch bit, then spend a couple of hours with rasps till I got it to fit.
Then I saw on your warclub thread where you burned the tang in, and the light bulb came on:DI still drill the slot as before , but now I heat the head and burn it in from there. Sure makes things a lot easier2thumbs!!

John, Glad I was able to help! Another tip from an expert. :D I've had an idea that I actually got started on and then lost interest in. I think once the weather warms up I'll get going on it again. I did get the box made for your new toy. Man its cold in my shop this morning.
