Gadzooks! New forum software is installed

Whilest you guys are still tweeking I've got a thought, dangerous at times, I know. I feel like there is too much "dead space" vertically. I use the grey color, really works well for my old bad eyes, but there is alot of grey space that allows me to view less on a page. If I search on "new posts" I can only see 7 threads, thats all. I appreciate the dates, posted, last etc, but seeing only 6 -7 threads is limiting in my opinion. Along the same lines is the large vertical signature's that take up alot of space. I know that some are founders, admin, forum owners, etc all good, but on this thread there are posts that take up most of my screen. Not counting the humerous ones which are occasional, seeing the same huge signatures multiple times on a single thread irritates me.
After one BIG ole SIG, we know who you are. I dont' mind waiting .8 seconds for a search, .3 of a second longer than before, and I really like the dates and added info, but consider dimensioning the "dead space" please and the vertical size of the signature lines, even if it varies by contribution level. My opinion, yours may vary, and My thanks for trying to make KnifeDogs a better place. Dozier
 
I just loged on and read all this post I like the night vision and so far you are doing a good job of tweeking it all in.Thanks Boss.

I am having a hard time understanding what you mean by the large vertical signatures, Everything is showing up the same to me.
If I search new posts I am getting 20 threads per page. It must be something with settings or your computer.

I am running a laptop with a 15'' screen. Do you have a lot of tool bars at the tops of your windows?

In a regular thread I get 10 Posts per thread page just like before. Same with my phone.

Ernie, what I mean, using your above post as an example, is that your "signature" takes up more space then what you wrote in the reply.
It is very vertical oriented, Huge grey area on the right 2/3 of the screen/page and the font is large and red, almost like a banner add on a web site. The knife site in britain has signatures and member info in a comlumn on the left, a box, and doesn't interupt the flow of the thread much.
Settings? HIIK, haven't changed anything but I sure could have my settings "off" I do not have alot of toolbars open. Apple computer

In the upper right side under the page selector there is a button that says "Display" Click on that then click on Linear Mode. try that.

Other than trying that I dont know why your screen is showing up like that. I do not really have any wasted space. No matter how long the posts are I get 10 per page.

Another thing you can try is to set your settings like mine, to see if it works better.
Go to the top right and click on settings, then go down on the left side under "my account" and click on General settings.

Then scroll down to thread display options. If you want you can uncheck show signatures and they will not show up for you anymore. (I have mine checked, I like seeing them)
This is how I have the rest set up

Thread display mode - Linear oldest first
Number of posts per page - Forum defult, You can change it to show as many as you want
You might want to try 10 or 20. I think the defult is set to 10 though.

BTW, to get the spell checker to work I had to reinstall it. Appears that there is an upgrade there too. If you want it just click on the ABC w/a check mark in the right upper corner of the quick reply screen.
 
I just went to General Settings and turned off the SHOW SIGNATURES and SHOW AVATARS switch and it cleans up the pages immensely. I will go back occassionally and reverse this to see avatars. But so far, I like it better this way. Give it a try.

I just shut off those signatures and you're right....100 per cent better.

Thanks Ernie, guys, making progress. Got the sig's cut off, much better, avatars I like, usually?
I am in the linear mode, changed display to 10, then 20, still not many threads per page.
When I go to "New Posts" it has the "last post: 01-01-010" with by "john doe" under "Replys 4" which is a above "views 88"
It would take up less "vertical space" if the last post and by were on the right of Replys and views on my screen I think. Making progress, again thanks for the input and help. Dozier

I logged on today and couldn't see anything but the 1st post? Gadzooks! Since I am so computer literut I logged in and fixed the problem with my highly tuned skills. I logged in is what I did. Duhh. I see some more changes and updates, I'm sure they will be useful.
I have red dotts appearing under some of my wurds but I'm juss going to dissreguard them for now.

fixed a switch setting that showed only a link for attachments. Now you hover or click over a thumbnail picture to blow it up..

all header files updated for each color -- that took some time and I am won't be making any changes to all of those files for awhile..

We still have quite a bit of work on Home page and the blog area but most everything is done on the forums page for now..
 
I think it is a dog poo. I can't get the search function to work right. A lot of the pictures won't pull up. I am usually the last to complain on updating software, but this needs some major work. It could be my imagination, but it looks to me like the number of posts are down. I used to write software in fact I could write in 5 different computer languages several years back. I would volunteer to help, but I never did any web software.
Tracy, I hope you don't think I don't appreciate Knife Dogs or the effort and expense you have put in. You are a great guy and run your business like one should be run.
