2013 Knife Making Progress

Awesome work guy! I started my own thread like yours. Hopefully I can start to crank out some sweet blades like you are. I like what I'm seeing. Keep it up.

Thanks, man. I checked out your thread and you seem to be getting the hang of it yourself. Very nice work!

I hope to get this one finished tonight and in the mail to BossDog for the American Valor raffle by tomorrow.

I thought I would go ahead and get some handle material ready today. I started by cutting up a few stabilized wood blocks into scales. Then sanded them down using my surface plate and 120 grit sandpaper.

Here is some spalted box elder burl...

Quite a few scales and liners glued up...

Next I started working on cleaning up the flats on this batch.

Steven,
Good to see you back in your shop.
Its is to clean and orderly by the way! Get in there and make some grinding dust & knives happen!

Thanks, Laurence!

I try to keep it clean since it is in the house but that ironwood sure did make a mess.

Lookin' good Steve. I think you are progressing very rapidly. Your work is solid brother!

Thanks, man.

I wish I could spend all day, everyday, in the shop. How have you been?

Thank you, Stan! I hit a rough patch for about a month but am finally climbing out of the hole. It seems that everything hits you at once.

I was preparing a set of scales and sawed into this...

I really didn't want that spot to be on the edge but with how thick the handle is, there was no other way. Any ideas on what to do? Try and fit them to a future smaller knife or would epoxy be ok? Maybe epoxy dyed black?

Scales for #6, 7, and 8...

Those are #s 8,9, and 10.

Also got a new dust collector that really helps out a lot.

You're shop bench looks almost identical to mine. You have way better equipment sitting on it, but the bench looks the same. Great minds think alike.

Great minds do think alike :D. I wish I had more space to build a few more.
