My experience with a Pheer 327 grinder Also my first 2 x 72 grinder.

The grinder tracks fine. It's a bit amateurish in and fit and finish. For the price I'ts ok. It seems to be a thing these days for custom work to take a lot longer to deliver than the maker quotes at order time. I was rather displeased with the inaccurate delivery time and then the roller...

I burned the edge a a couple inches up and still have to fix that. But I think it will make a fine fillet knife.

Best handle and blade material to work by hand? (no grinder)

Another thing with G-10 don't try to cut it with a wood bandsaw. I tried with a 2 day old Timberwolf resaw special blade it lasted about 10 seconds sparks were coming off it at 4 seconds. It will be part of my first damascus blade when I break it into sections and layer it with some bar stock...

    Number 3 knife is a 80CRV2 fillet

So I went bangin' on some steel today and ended up with a fillet knife with a cutting edge of 12 1/4". Made from a bar of 80CRV2 that was 5/8" by 3/16 by 13 3/4". Ended up with an over all length of 18" the tang needs shortened quite a bit but i was practicing drawing out steel. It flexes...

Second forged blade decided to try some of Aldo's "hamon special" 1095

the 2 blades were from the same bar but my clay mix was different today (I tried to be more scientific) Yesterday I crushed charcoal pellets with a hammer in a plactic jug to make powder and last night I took it home and ground it up in a coffee grinder. Yesterday the sand had micro boulders...

Second forged blade decided to try some of Aldo's "hamon special" 1095

Went to David Roeder's house this morning with the plan to forge some blades. So I had a number of steel bars cut to length and I picked up the 1095 and decided to try it. Granted this took me forever to forge but it shaped up pretty well. I'm needing lots of time on the hammer and anvil but I...

Tips to avoid material screw ups, and our stories of thorough or creative failures

That is my biggest fear. Wrecking a piece of wood. No matter what it's one of a kind and can't be replaced. Metal is an object you might not be able to recreate the exact pattern in a damascus blade but it is a piece of steel and can be replaced, a piece of natural materal is the way it is...

Anybody ever used electric sanders for flats?

I've been using a Bosch random detail sander to reduce time spent cleaning up some machine marks on hollow grinds.

My fifth set of handles this one on a Two Finger Knife damascus blank

So I decided to be industrious today and make a set of handles for a blank I purchased in Aug from Two Finger Knife. This was (at that time) intended to be a gift for my dad for Christmas but since then I have learned a lot and made a few handles and decided that I will forge a blade for my...

Thank You I studied a video by a knife maker on youtube goes by Jackloreknives and I liked his handle shape and shows how he determines where the palm swell is to be located and does a demo handle. So I tried it for myself.

Today's project first attempt to dye sheath and complete #3 handle it was a success

So I got off to a running start this morning with a sheath I had cut out and attached the belt loop. Then got a wild hair and decided to try to do a 2-tone dye for first attempt. Apparently I have to do it the hard way the first time. So i wetted the sheath with a water/alcohol solution and...

    My very first Knife handle

#2 handle but I cut it before I realized I needed more room in front of the forward pin. This is mystery wood. I bought out a hobbyist maker and there are 8 or so blocks of this wood all stabilized but not sure of what it is.

Yes Bruce not too far away. I had just found out from David that you lived in Walla Walla a few weeks ago. I had seen your name on a good many posts and didn't realize you were nearby.
