A batch of kitchen knives, and some regular stuff.

Here are some of the knives I am taking to Dallas this weekend. Never done many kitchen styles. These are all AEBL in 3/32 and 1/16. Also have these in 154 CM. The sheep horn one is regular sized, 7 3/4 or so, and the others are small EDC's in a scaled down version of the same pattern...

    Releiving liners

I used a dremel on my last three or four. It works. A tip, if you use a dremel, bump the edge of the liners with a file afterward, to even out the edge. It's hard to get it perfectly even with a dremel, but you can hide the uneven part a bit by cleaning up the edge.

    CPM 154 heat treat question

All I can share is my personal experience. 154CM or CPM154CM, I like 1950 x 20 minutes, plate quench, then dry ice. Blade tempers at 450 to get to 60 RC. Spring tempers at 1125 to get to 48-50RC. Your mileage may vary, starting from 1900 without any cryo option.

    Knives from band saw blades

I have a bunch of pieces of two different sizes, about 1.5 wide and 2.0 wide. Best I can get out of it is about 56 RC. I don't know the brand, etc.

How do you make your "Flats" ??

I built my disk grinder, with a KMG 1 degree disk that I purchased from USA Knifemaker. I have the flat disk as well, but haven't used it.

How do you make your "Flats" ??

Flattening on the platen with variable speed is better than full speed. Flattening with a disk is better than on a platen. Flattening with a surface plate can be flatter than with a disk. Personally, I go from the platen to the disk, then put it all together.

    A couple more folders

I have been making a few slip joint pocket knives lately while I was in between batches of fixed blade stuff. Both of these are 154 CM stainless with jigged bone. Red one is small, 3" closed. The double bolstered one is bigger, 4 1/8" closed. Now it is back to the fixed blades for a while.

    Red bone and 154CM slipjoint

Here is a small hand made slip joint pocket knife. 154 CM blade and spring with stainless liners, Crimson jigged bone from Culpepper, and nickel silver pins. 3" closed, 5 1/8 open. Good walk and talk, flush fitting spring with a half stop. Medium firm pull. The mark is on the backside, because...

Fancy Hunter in 1084 and Mesquite

Here is one I finished up today. I have to give John Doyle credit for the inspiration on the spacer styling. 1084 blade with stainless fluted fittings and coined brass spacers. For me, the keys to doing one of these are to make sure everything is flat, to use hidden guide pins to keep...

What are you going to make in 2016?

I don't remember exactly what I said on the other thread, but I have three things for 2016. I'm going to build a stainless integral keyhole hunter. Best I can tell, Peter DelRaso from Australia is the only other one to do a keyhole in stainless, although there are quite a few guys doing them...

Grind with Blade Edge Up or Down

It's been covered well. Edge up allows for better control, IMHO. That black stuff is tough.
