There's a guide for the blade that can be adjusted up and down. Set it so that it's close to the piece that's being cut while still being able to see what's going on.

Seeing how it's Christmas work on these is coming to a stop. I have decided what handle material to use. One will have curly maple with a black and green canvas micarta bolster. The other one will be Koa with a blue liner. Merry Christmas everyone!

My package came in the mail today. Soundmind sent me some cool carboy, moose antler, and a block of spruce burl. I'm already coming up with plans for the material.

Looks like a modified vegetable knife. Leave the long ricasso for a pinch grip.

Leave the handle on. You never know when you might need some leverage to hog off some material. I'll be waiting for my pdf......

I like 1075 and use it for most of my knives because people like the looks of a hamon. 1084 produces more of a temper line than a hamon. In my limited experience 1075 does heat treat differently in a kiln vs 1084. When I was using a forge my process was the same.

Why the burr king? At Blade I played with one and the tooling arm change out seemed like it would be a pain. The TW90 looks like more bang for the buck, and faster tool changes.

I've done that so many times................. now I put a dab of heavy grease on the outside of the bearing to keep it in the tooling arm. I really laugh at myself when I start talking out loud like someone else is there. The day someone answers I know it will be time to go too the loony bin!
