WIP Bowie knife

That wasn’t so bad. Still freaked me out. Some time ago I saw a knife with a slightly rounded swedge. I cannot remember who made it or I would give them credit for the inspiration. It might have been John Doyle. I will finish this by draw filing and hand sanding.

I just noticed that the tang area is sanded less than the thickness of the ricasso. Is this done to give a snugger fit in the bolster/blade fit up?
Go check out my video tutorial on shouldering your tang for guard fit up,my YouTube channel is WildmanPB it explains how to do this,I use a mill but it's also easy to do with a file and a file guide.

Time to work on handle fit up. Hollowed our the elk. Cut some blue g10. Cut some 416 stainless spacers. Got them all flattened and ready for epoxy.

Also working on the guard. Going with a short piece of high carbon steel that I have laying on the bench. .250 thick. Should work out just fine.

John Doyle gave me this tip a while ago. Get some good files from Rio Grande. Crappy files do not cut very well. Good files just work better.

Almost finished. I am going to stop here for today. My head hurts and I have used up my daily allotment of swear words. At this moment in life I prefer hand sanding to guard fitting. The lowest of lows. A cold beverage, a hot shower, and some rest should change my perspective. Tomorrow should be a great day.

Been there before. The wife asks are you having a bad day in the shop. Why you ask, because you owe the cuss jar about $20.00 dollars by my count!! And that is just the last hour!

Time to epoxy up the throat. I will get this done in three sections. It is easier for me to drill and shape the hole for the tang if it is completed in sections. Blue is the theme. G10 and 416 stainless.
