Peter and I have been focused on forging Titanium. Here is a can I put together and filled it with Ti powder. Peter made a can also.

We pre-heated the cans to 1800F in an oven. Ti in a can acts very differently than steel. It also tends to squirt out broken seams. This seemed be a prudent safety precaution. We should have preheated to 1950.

Both cans failed. Here are the corpses. Long story short, there are probably several reasons for the failure.
Not enough heat. We need an argon purge going the entire time and the powder we used was not the right stuff.
We have found better powder and we will be setting up an argon purge for the next test.
