Not sure what what was used on the press of this thread, but it looks like what Coal Iron used on their 9 ton press (they sell it as 12 ton). I just measured my Coal Iron press and it's 1"X3" bar, length as required.

I used 1x4 top and Bottom and 1x3 in the middle. I was using drops and shorts for steel and that's what they had. Its a bit taller than the Coal Iron because of the 1x4 and the 1/8" plate.
