Hi as Ive just joined the site I though I would post a pic of a knife I finished today. Its my fourth knife so far and its a design I copied of a friend of mine from another site.
I learnt alot from this knife as I found that using the slack of a belt was great on corners to get file marks out ,learnt a bit about file work and learnt how to miror polish...though need to improve there a wee bit.

4mm 01

23 degrees scandi grind

bocote?? wood

My next learning stage is plunge cuts...are there any tutorials here please? I also need to learn to do a matt finish on a blade be it with various grits or with a scotchbrite wheel...any advice on that pleasse will be most welcome.

Cheers

Pete

Nice looking knife you have there.

The easiest way to get a nice plunge line is to file it in with a small chainsaw file. After you mark your center line, mark the blade where you want the plunge line, file it straight (use a guide if you have to). Down to where you want the thickness of your blade to be pre HT. Then you can start moving the line up the blade with the file by changing the angle that you hold it at. You're plunge lines will look a lot better than if you try to finesse them in with just the grinder. I've tried doing it freehand on several occasions and am now going with the file method. Maybe after I make a lot more knifes I'll be able to just make it happen freehand.

Nice work, Pete, that will make a great camp knife or skinner or work equally well in the kitchen. Denny
