Iwas thinking today and it occured to me that since there are some quite experienced makers here, as well as some newer makers that a trivia challenge question would be a way to share some of that knowledge.
Since knifemaking covers a braod area of skills, I would like some topic suggestions. As soon as I get several I will be posting a trivia challenge question.
So, what area of your knifemaking could you use more info on?

I think a good one would be heat treating terms and their meanings. Also, just about anything that might be called different things by various makers...sometimes the terminology we use is the biggest obstacle to overcome when trying to help others.

in that case the basic parts of the knife would qualify!

i.e.

swedge vs. false edge :bud:

How about a list of the differences between all the various common high carbon steels, ie: 01, D2, L6, A2, W1, 1085, 1095, etc.

The specialised crucible steels could be on another list as with the various stainless varieties.

This would clear up a lot of confusion with new knife makers and some of the older makers, like me, who prefere to stick to one type of steel.

I think this info will really broarden our outlook and knowledge of the steels available and what they can do over other materials.

Just a thought.
