Gadzooks! New forum software is installed

I understand, gentlemen. As I said, it will take my dumb self a while to get used to new things, but I'm not jumping ship or anything :)

I'll add a few more color choices in skins. Did you know 25% of males are color blind to some degree?

The sign on issues I don't doubt are real for those suffering them. I also believe it is a local computer issue and not the fault of this software upgrade. vBulletin, no matter the forum, does not remember who you are. It just sends a cookie out to your PC. That is browsers job to look at the cookie stored in your local computer. If you have your security settings to high or cookies disabled or some anti virus (or multiple anti virus) programs running, it is going to make life a little harder.

The smilies are messed up. We'll fix those when we can.

I have *barely* gone through any of the settings that literally took months to tweak into place on the old software. Give me a at least a couple weeks this time. I have a day job and a night job.

We didn't lose any messages, memberships, members, pictures or anything else in the upgrade. That to me is stunning.

Cookies are enabled. Log ins work correctly on quite a number of other forums and other sites on that box.
 
Password Manager settings

Firefox will remember passwords by default. You may have disabled this feature, or told Firefox to never remember passwords for a particular site.

  1. At the top of the Firefox windowOn the menu bar​
    , click on the
    ToolsFirefoxEdit​
    menu, and select
    Options...Preferences...​
    .
  2. Select the Security panel.
  3. If it isn't already check marked, check Remember passwords for sites.
  4. To the right of Remember passwords for sites, click the
    Exceptions...​
    button .
  5. Make sure that the site you're trying to log in to isn't in the list.
    • If it is, select the entry and click
      Remove​
      .
  6. Click
    Close​
    Close the Exceptions window​

  7. Click

Now that you've configured Firefox to remember passwords, try logging in to the site again.

Firefox's Clear Private Data feature might be set to clear your passwords when you close Firefox.

  2. Select the Privacy panel.

Passwords being automatically cleared

Firefox may be set to remove saved passwords when it is closed. To undo this setting:

Firefox is now configured to not clear your passwords when closing.
 
Keep in mind that most if us whose first opinion was, "What the heck happened? I liked things the way they were!!!" are just in shock due to the comfort zone we had with the old software. We will all adapt and overcome the changes for the overall good. When I first sen the update, I didn't like it either. I'll adapt. I must agree with Steve, the "Night Vision" skin is awesome!!!
 
The issues I have found (and reported to Tracy).
the spell check doesn't seem to work.
The smiles being messed up.
The new posts and what's new seem to be the same thing.
I liked the old when I clicked on Today's Posts and worked through them I came to the posts that said: The following posts have not been updated since your last visit. I used that and I don't get it any more. Other than going to each forum I don't know how to look at the un-updated posts.
In the old version when I viewed a thread, then hit the back button the lats one I had opened was high lighted. Its not now.
Boss has started a couple of threads about the new software and when I click on them it says that I don't have permission to view the thread.
With the old soft ware if I didn't do anything for about 20 minutes it logged me off. I found that aggravating but thought that it was a security setting. Now the "remember me" works and I can always just sit down and start looking. Now I'm wondering if I need to have the auto log off or if I should manually log off when I'm through.
I just copied this message then hit the spell check and again the message disapeared. I noticed that it had "Stop" to the side. I clicked it and my message came back but without showing any corrections. I waited for a long time incase it was still checking.
 
You are a retired attourny (sic) I'd expect you know how to spel. i haven't tried the spell checker yet, I just use the one in my browser. in fact I didn't even know it had one. where is it?

the smilies will get nuked here in a minute. we'll have to hunt up some new ones that will work. I suspect the old ones will work but they are in the wrong folder in the server.
the 'new' posts have several switches. i'm going to adjust them as soon as I can find them.

you said you couldn't log into a message earlier..is that still an issue?

Thanks for pointing out the color change option at the bottom of the forums page. Teal is just not me; now the night vision theme is more like it.

I like it.
I run firefox and have KD saved in cookies; but when I load the main page it does not remember me. When I go to sub forums it shows me as logged on.

I'm sure I'll get used to everything except the pastel colors. They remind me of some of that pastel dyed giraffe bone that no collector will buy anymore. I've tried every color and keep going back to "white, close to default". Night mode just confuses me for some reason.

lot's of new smilies in place. it is a manual process and I didn't name them all. i'll see about tracking down some of our old dog ones later..

I am happy I said something about the green, I think that the Night Vision is a big hit.

Boss, Have you figured out anything with the reply button?
Also what happened to the Knife Dogs Banner? It should replace the vbulletin banner.

Search also seems to only be working for posts done after the upgrade, There is a discussion about it in the support forum.
 
I am a fan of the grey format, the other colors show up well for me. Getting the hang of it now. Getting around
is already easier for me. One thing I am not a fan of is the HUGE signature sections that take alot of vertical space on my screen.

whats wrong with reply? it works for me.
i'll have to work on getting the default vbulletin header replaced with a new knifedogs header file. with all the color schemes, it's going to take a bit.
i'll see if the search needs to be re-indexed.
