I have Paul's DVD's. At the end of one of them he mentions that if you have any questions, to give him a call. I did, and guess what...he answered. Paul is a great guy and incredibly talented. I have seen some nice sheaths, but they all seem to fall far back in comparison to Paul's.

I called Ron Clairborne when I was looking for a press. He said he was taking a hiatus from making them for a while. That was several years ago, and I bought a uncle al's press. It works great, although I did have one weld pop, and I had to have it re-welded.

Thanks guys. Yeah Murph. It has been quite a while since I really wanted to keep a knife, I mean really had a hard time posting it. That was the one. It just felt great in my hand and looked pretty stinkin' cool.

knife looks great. I believe the handle wood is bocote. At least it looks like that to me.

Thanks everyone, I will have to try the scribing method and marking the stamp. It does make me feel a little better to know that Paul also struggles with this particular stamp. :)

Anyone have any tips on how to keep things straight when using the triangular basket weave tool. After a while things start to not line up as I continue to bring the weave pattern across the sheath. There always seems to be one place where it is just "off" Any help would be appreciated...

This is some of my high contrast san mai. The blade is designed to look as though it has a hamon, but much more bold. The core steel is 1095, and the outer layers are low carbon high nickel steel. The spine is fileworked and the flats are left with the forge scale, because I like how it looks...

Your hamons are outstanding. Seems whatever I do, I can't make a hamon pop like that. Nice stuff.
