You could blast them with 80 grit AO and then coat with Duracoat clear. Makes a rust proof matt grey finish.

Use 2oz leather and glue it to the kydex with contact cement. Then form the Kydex as usual.

I like to put them on the buffer with white compound. If they get to shiny I wipe them down with lacquer thiner. Takes the shine off.

Brownells sell it for their acraglass epoxy bedding. I have used it for that and it works very well.

Could you use stand-off and screws to temporality hold the scales in place while you fit and finish them to the blade. Then take them off and stone wash the blade, After that, glue on the scales. You would have to be on the spot making sure get all the excess glue is removed.
