    First Puukko

I’d never attempted a Puukko build, until now. Quite honestly, I wasn’t a huge fan of the traditional design and the jury is still out for me, but the build was fun. My research determined that no ricasso and a full scandy grind are traditional features. Getting the front guard filed and fit...

    Anyone making micarta?

I have not finished it yet. However I plan to soon. I couldn’t locate anyone that was willing to take in the project, so I set out to do it myself. So far, so good. I’ve done a series of layups with different materials, and some similar to the goal material. I plan on doing it soon and I’ll be...

    Fresh off the bench

This whole virus uproar has me bored out of my mind. My hot shop is off limits for a few days, so I’ve been doing some finishing.

    Some new puukko work

Beautiful work! How is the handle attached to the blade? I’m asking because I’m currently doing research to start a puukko build.

    Best forge

I’d like to start dipping my toes in the world of forging. I’ve got a decent anvil, but no power tools. What I’m looking for is a SAFE, decent, production made forge, that I could possibly weld with in the future. If I get serious about welding I’ll upgrade. I’m not particularly interested in...

    My latest

Thank you, again. I really like that little design. It’s been a good all around knife for me. I am already smitten with the paper micarta. I love the clean black look. Not bad to work with either.

    My latest

I’m drawn to the finger choil designs for whatever reason. They just feel good in my hand. I’m a die hard blade pincher and I think that influences my designs a lot, for better or worse.

    My latest

I call this model my Duck Zipper. It’s pretty popular with my duck hunting friends. This one is AEB-L, with paper micarta and lacewood.

    Bolo knife

A neighbor of mine had an old guy make him a reproduction bolo for his WW 2 stuff. It needs to go on a bit of a diet to fit the original sheath. Does anyone know if the originals were single or double beveled edge?

Recommendations: Machinist Parallels 1/8? or 1/32?

I actually have both the 1/8” and the 1/32”. The thin ones have been in my drawer in the same spot for years, and I’ll bet I only use them once every 2 or 3 years. The 1/8” ones I have 4 sets, and I’ll bet I use them I. One combination or another every day.

    My KITH knife

Thank you for the offer, that’s very kind. I’m almost certain he’s fallen ill. Both of us where behind by a few days, and when we last talked he was recovering from a hospital stay, but was feeling better. If you don’t mind post a picture of your blade or send it to me in a PM. Thanks

    My KITH knife

I finished this knife quite a while ago, and I was waiting to exchange it before showing the finished product. I’ve been unable to reach my designated tradee, and I’m just praying he is okay. That said I’m kinda proud of how it turned out so I wanted to show it off. The blade is 52100 from AKS...

Talk to me about heirloom/museum fit?

I have a pretty good idea what this, and what it looks like. The thing I’m not sure about, is the function of the form. To my eye it disrupts the flow of the knife and I can only imagine it would feel funny in the hand. Bear in mind I say this with envy and the utmost respect for those that can...

    Ricasso?? What’s the big deal?

Goofy title I know. But seriously, does the ricasso serve an actual function? Besides a convenient place to put a makers mark. I’ve seen some very nice knives, by talented and well respected makers, that have what I think is a giant ricasso, and to me it throws the whole thing off. My personal...

    Grizzly Dial Height Indicator

I loved having a height gauge when I shared my shop with a CNC mill guy. I tried to go cheap and buy one made for wood work, not a good purchase. Can’t wait to get funds for a good one.

    Finished one up.

Thank you. It could quite possible a personal thing but I feel like a knife has better balance and indexing when the spine has at least a little curve to it.

    Finished one up.

No, it’s just a flying mallard EDM pin from USAKnifemaker. A big majority of my clientele come from the Waterfowl world, so I get a bunch of requests for stuff like this.

    Anyone heard from Jason Volkert?

I’ve messaged him a few times, and last I’d heard he was having some medical issues. Haven’t heard back in a bit. Just concerned.
