    Coote Grinders

I don't know if everyone knows this yet, but Norm has a small roller attachment available for his grinders. When I bought mine 6 months ago, it wasn't available. Thought I would pass it on. Thanks, Dale.

    Moose Antler

Is moose antler a good handle material? If so, how would you use it? I know where I can get one for a small fee, and was thinking how many handles a person could do. Thanks, Dale.

    Hospital

The worst time I had it, I had to get an I.V. treatment every day for 10 days. Now that I know what it is, I always catch it early and get it kicked in a week. Remember the symptoms, and at the first sign, get help.

    Hospital

I've had this very thing a couple times, but not as bad as yours sounds. Know what you're going through and hope you get it whooped. Dale.

sanding O1, and buffing to polish

I don't see why it wont. I think you need to go finer than 800 before you buff, say at least 2000. Another thing I have found is, every time you go to a finer grit, change the direction you sand. That way you can see when you have all the previous scratches out.

    Handle Fasteners

Thanks for the replies. I was leaning toward the loveless bolts anyway, and you helped confirm my decision.

    Handle Fasteners

Corby bolts vs. Loveless bolts. Is one better than the other, or is it personal preference? I am getting ready to handle a couple of blades and need to buy supplies. I like the birdseye effect with loveless bolts of different materials. Anyway, any help is appreciated.

    Belt Speed

Ok, after doing some investigation, my motor is a 1725 rpm motor. The 8" wheel model 2" x 72" Coote grinder has a maximum speed of 2200 rpm. So that limits me from going too fast. Problem solved. Now just to learn where everything works good at and all will be fine. I am fortunate enough to have...

    Belt Speed

I'm pretty sure my motor is a 1750 rpm cw/ccw unit, will check when I get home. Thanks for the calculator, and I have already seen some of those, and understand how they work. What I am trying to figure out is what is the optimum speed for a certain belt/job. What I don't want to do is ruin...

    Belt Speed

My new Coote grinder is here, and I am getting things to hook it up. I have read the "Abrasive Belt Basic" attachment to the NWG, but it doesn't say anything about the recommended SFP for different things you grind on. Is there a starting point somewhere or do you just fly by the seat of your...

    2 x 48 Kalamazoo Sander

I have looked at the Coote grinder and am going to get the 2x72. I am able to swing it and will be sending off for it today. Thanks for the input and guidance. I have the plans for the no weld grinder and will get it built one day, just not today. It wont be that bad to build, but the cost of...

    2 x 48 Kalamazoo Sander

I had not seen the Coote before. Looks simple and bullet proof. It just adds another $250 to what I need to come up with. The good thing is I already have the motor for it. Thanks for the info, Dale.

    2 x 48 Kalamazoo Sander

Now that I have filed the edges on two blades 1/4" thick, I am not in the mood to do that again. I am looking at the Kalamazoo 2 x 48 belt sander with out motor, I have one sitting around. This is what is in my budget at the moment and was wondering if anybody had any experience with this...

    O1 Hardness

I have my first two blades ready to heat treat and am going to have them done by someone else. What hardness should I have them shoot for. They are both Bushcraft style, scandi grind, 1/4" thick. Thanks for your input, Dale

    Bois D'arc (Osage Orange)

The reason I was interested in stabilizing this wood was more for color retention. I like the bright yellow of the newly exposed surface. I know about how hard this stuff is when aged, have seen sparks from my chainsaw several times.

    Bois D'arc (Osage Orange)

What I have was cut last spring. Does it keep the bright yellow color with the Tru-Oil, or get dark. I have a bunch of it , and I thought it would be a cheap for me handle material.
