    Stainless Steel Finish Question

Thanks for the feedback guys. Since I have never done a satin finish(other then paint) I will try several different methods on some scrap stainless and select the best looking. Still open to comments from others.

    Stainless Steel Finish Question

I have a commission project using stainless steel. Customer wants a satin finish on stainless. Anyone have any suggestions on the best way to get that finish on stainless. I am thinking of sand/bead/other-media blasting might make a better appearance then say sanding or grinding. Any thoughts??

Full integral Harpagornis by Karl Heinz Koob from Wetzlar / Germany

New to knife making. Integral, the scales/handle are "integral" to or part of the blade, right?

    Knife Number 3

In my recent Would-Like-Some-Input Thread I asked for input on ideas and the how and why for a knife blade I had. Here is the result of suggestions I got. This knife is for me and will be more or less a demo for potential customers to see my work. Some shots to show it off. The...

    Motor speed controller

Can you provide a pic of the data plate on the motor? At 22volts I am thinking maybe it is a DC motor or, perhaps the 22 is a misprint and it is actually a 220v AC motor?

    Would Like Some Input...

John, is this anything like what you are saying? I flipped it around and cut down on the size of the resulting pommel, should probably be even a little smaller. The two tan lines through the length of the antler are, the light tan- original/current tang hole, the darker would be a new tang...

    Would Like Some Input...

Thanks John, that is perfect constructive criticism as far as I am concerned. I didn't know anything about the aesthetics of knives when I started on the first one but I continue to learn, your comments are exactly what I am looking for. Even thought the tang(or is it tine) hole is already in...

    Would Like Some Input...

Thanks for the comments Doug but based on your comments I guess I should have been clearer in mine. The first "as-is" photo just shows the initial fabrication of the tang hole in the antler. The flow of lines is identical(except for the brass additions and PS changes) in both pics. They are...

    Would Like Some Input...

Made these two knives recently more or less at the customers direction but now want to make one for myself but really have no idea what I want. In making the Beast I found a de-lamination defect in the Damascus blade; Look to the right just above the ricosso, I could catch a finger nail on the...

    A Newbie's 1st and 2nd Knives.

Thanks for the warning. Over on my wood-turning forums we consider that sucking sound the turning vortex and if this is anything close to the same vortex, your right, there is no hope of getting out of it.

    Resin casting WIP

I am more of a pen-maker-turner than a knife maker and I do quite a bit of casting as well as stabilization. Form what I can see in your pics you are using clear Alumilite which is what a lot of pen makers as well as my self use, it's great stuff. For stabilization most of us(pen makers) use...

    A Newbie's 1st and 2nd Knives.

Both blades are finished type blades from Jantz Supply. I had to do some shape grinding on the tang and the ricasso areas but the blades in general were already finished so I suppose "kit knife" would be descriptive enough although I would prefer "knife components" or "component set" to...

Third and Fourth completed, and a question about hiding pins

I will be checking into tapered reamers myself but, have a similar problem on my first knife not to mention tool marks and sanding scratches. Mine should looks as good as yours after about 20 more.

Latest Knife....first new knife posted on the forum

I like it especially the brass mosaic pins, I have been thinking I would like to try mosaics on my next knife. The only critique I can make and its probably just the setting for the photo is that in the top view photo one scale looks a little wider than the other but again that is probably just...

My First Ever Custom Made Knives

I posted these earlier in the "New To Knife Making" forum and then found this kind of "show-off-your-knives" forum so I am hoping that posting the same pics twice is not a problem. Moderators if I am doing something incorrect please advise and delete one of them. Beauty - Knife #1: 440C...
