Tutorial - How to Post Pictures

So you have a picture that you want to upload and post for everyone to see. That's nice. Now how do you do it?

I suggest using forums built in uploader, or imageshack.us

Using the forum uploader, click the
attach.gif
icon in a new thread post, or in the "Advanced" post options.

Browse, find the picture, upload it. Then click the
attach.gif
icon dropdown (Manage Attachments) and then select which picture (if you uploaded multiples)

What you get is a number that has "ATTACH" codes around it. Preview the post

Open the picture in a new tab (right click, open link in new tab) to make it full sized. Then copy the web address of that picture. For this pic, it's http://knifedogs.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1551&d=1255635123

Click the
insertimage.gif
icon, paste the picture URL into the box. Make sure it does not put "http://http://" in the link. If it does, simply erase one of them.

Now you have your full sized picture, as shown here:

For using imageshack.us:
Some people like photobucket, but I hate it, because they delete/move the pictures too often (I've seen it happen within a week of uploading)

Browse, select the picture(s), then select any resizing options (I will resize mine to 640x480 because I can!)

Make sure you get the DIRECT LINK to the picture. Not the shortened link, or the prettiest looking link... the DIRECT LINK. This can be done by clicking on the picture until you are left with only a picture and a blank background.

Copy the URL, and paste it into the
insertimage.gif
icon.

Then you end up with something a little like this:

Thanks will get the wife to help me as im technicly challenged and get irate at comp when things dont work heh.
 
Calvin, I just tried it out. Go to the bottom of the quick reply box, on the right side it says "go advanced". Click that to get started.

Has this process changed recently? I’ve been trying to use the forum uploading function and I can’t get more than one pic into a post. What am I doing wrong? I’m trying to upload from my iPhone. Could that be the issue?

iPhones can be troublesome because the newer ones use a proprietary format that the forum software probably doesn't recognize. You will probably need to convert your images to a PDF first.
Here's a tutorial on how to do that.

Once you've converted your photos to a PDF I've found the simplest way to upload photos is to use the insert image function (Ctrl-P). It's the square box between the link and smiley face on the tool bar when you're posting. Just drag and drop your photos to the box that opens. You do need to ensure that your photos are small enough. It will tell you if they are too large.
 
I use the "Attach files" at the bottom there to load pics. I have never used file hosting sites as they ALWAYS become draconian after a few years of "free" use. If you attach files they remain here on Knife Dogs Forum even if you flame out at some point in time...Thus keeping the continuity for folks on down the line. If I hosted a site like this that is the only way I would allow uploads of pics. A few years back one of the file hosting site...Photobucket methinks...pulled a major crap stain and busted links around the globe on multiple forums...Sorry...they're just not needed.

My issues is exactly that. The photos are too large and I don’t know how to resize them. Again, I’m using my iPhone for pics so maybe that is part of the problem. Suggestions on resizing pics?

I don't have an iPhone so my only suggestion would be to transfer your photos to a PC and use what ever software you have on your PC to resize.
Hopefully someone with an iPhone will respond soon.

So there’s a limit to how much you can upload directly here I gather, since I’ve already reached it. Is the preferred method using an outside image hosting site?
