Trying a thing

Dip it in ferric chloride. It will blacken. Or a wipedown of vegetable oil Then hit it lightly with a torch to set the oxides. It gets pretty durable.
I was meaning the ‘scale’ left on the bevel. If you zoom and look closely, within that blackness on the bevel is a ‘ridge’ kinda a peninsula if I may. I would LOvE to be able to purposefully duplicate that consistently and randomly. Or is that what the ferric chloride will do is ‘scale’ it up? And I may not be explainin very clear.

Oh, I meant that that ferric will darken the scale (after you wire brush off the loose flakey stuff). The torch will set the dark colored oxides so that the black doesn’t wipe off so easily.
