Trying a thing

Now that I have some opportunity to explore this knifemaking - I find that it fits well in with my desire to just try stuff.

Still need sanding, etching and somehow attach the copper scales

Ha! Bruce is correct - There are scary things in my mind - most I try to keep hidden... I truly do not consider myself to have a creative bone in my body. But I must be part Japanese because I can freaking duplicate anything. A n y t h i n g

So I scour magazines and gallerys , many of them you guys’, and when I see something I like - I try it. Often it is an epic fail - sometimes it takes me several attempts - I just have fun.

Ended up putting white micarta pins in with the green stuff.



Needs final polishing and some magic tru-oil on it. I put that $h&$ on everything!

more accident than anything Randy. I’d like to learn how to make that more ‘on purpose’ and more stark. Talking about the ‘scale’ on the blade part - probably wont even stay on over time

Dip it in ferric chloride. It will blacken. Or a wipedown of vegetable oil Then hit it lightly with a torch to set the oxides. It gets pretty durable.
