Tracking Problem

You may have crushed the bearings some. I did the same, and made a washer out of .020 brass. It now as true as any tooling on my KMG.

Some folks say the crown works better on the tracking wheel than the drive wheel. some folks crown on drive wheel. I've used both, but now use a crowned tracking wheel. I've read with a crown on both tracking and drive wheel they tend to fight each other. Seems like if everything is perfectly lined up it would be ok for both drive and tracking wheels to have crown. I added some tape on my flat drive wheel (tracking wheel crowned) to see what it would do and it seemed to work ok.

I have seen people put tape on them to increase or add to the crown.
More crown could possibly help with the wandering while using the big wheel.

I thought about that, but I can’t tell if it’s domes or not.

I did crush the first set of bearings. These are brand new and pro installed at a machine shop. I’m going to make some washers first thing in the am. I think that will make a difference too. I’m also going to try the tape on the tracking wheel trick also.

I havent tried this, but just a thought...run a small bubble level from one side of the tracking wheel to the other. If it doesn't change probably no doming. If it does that should mean you have a bit of a dome.That should give you a rough idea whether it's crowned or not. (I think)

After I posted this I realized you would get a better result by measuring the outer edge of the wheel and then the middle with a pair of calipers.
 
Tracking will change if the centerlines of your wheels/platen aren’t the same. The idea to shim your contact wheel over is spot on. Even if that’s not your only problem, it still needs to be fixed.
