Rawhide Wrapped Elk Leg

I have been in a 1800's ish mood here lately.
Here is an elk leg bone knife, both blade and handle are elk leg bone. The blade is 5 3/4" and the total length is 10 1/2". Dyed with potassium permanganate. Handle is rawhide wrapped.

Very cool and unique-I'm curious did you grind this on your grinder as you would with steel?
