My latest knife.

HELLGAP

Dealer - Purveyor
This drop point skinner has creeping vine file work from the butt to the tip. Took me near 3 hours to file. The steel is cpm154 with a rc of 60 . The handle is some of the finest burl ive ever seen , RAMIN very very nice. Im in the process of making a sheath, I cant believe I didnt have one worthy . This might be my best knife to date. Super hollow ground . Mosaic pins are even lined up for a change lol .

That is indeed very nice looking wood Kelly, and one I've never heard of before. Do you happen to know where it comes from or much about it? Is it stabilized, or is that not needed?

Sweet!! I'm still working on "The Basics", but I am really intrigued by the filework!! I can't wait until I can give it a try!!

The wood Ramin is pretty rare to find burl like this. In the old days was used as handle material and pool cues. I cant remember for sure but I think its indonesia. It is stabilized and sands really well up to 320 but I hand sanded after that. The file work takes alot of practice and on thinner blade material is even harder and with this being cpm154 is hard as a rock to file even prior to heat treat. If you can get a filing video that will help alot. Thanks for all the kind comments this one was tuff to do. kellyw
