Very nice Craig. I'm baffled as to how you did this. Are the ends of the slipjoint springs extended to act as the spring for the lock bar?

Yes the springs turn down at the end of the lock bar and curve up under it to keep tension on the bar. There are two pins in the center of the spring to keep it from rotating. I will get you a photo of the springs that should help more than my typing.
