KDs Best of 2020....

"The Montana Bladesmith"
It's been one crazy year, but..... the last day of 2020 is here! Lets see what you consider your "Best of 2020" knives!

My year has been slow. As most know I battle chronic illness and pain, so sometimes I can work, and other times I'm balled up on the couch for days. I did manage a couple of things....

The creation of my New Model 7 Ultralight folders....

I did manage a few hunters in San-Mai...

Brought out the newest member of the EBK family.... the EBK Max...

And I even did something that I'd been thinking about for a long time...... a folding scalpel, that uses replaceable blades.....

Here's hoping that things get better for everyone in 2021! May God Bless and keep you in the New Year!

My best best of 2020 knives came early in the year as I was preparing for the Spirit of the Blade show in Troy, OH in March. Since then with all the craziness of covid going on and having a new baby I haven't made too many knives this year. I hope to make a lot more in 2021, and if blade show doesn't get canceled I plan on testing for JS, so those knives will be the best ones I make all year :)

My personal favorites I made in 2020:

My best achievement was actually revisiting this awesome craft. I was able to get a couple mediocre blades made ... looking forward to 2021. Gonna really try and hone my “skill”
Happy New Year everyone!

Here are a few of mine.

First are a couple kitchen knives I made to raffle off to help support our local cafe and bake shop, they are the 2 businesses on each side of my cabinet shop. The 2 knives raised over $1000 for each business.

Next is my first feather damascus blade. It is also my 200th knife made. It is the one on the right. The left one is my 100th knife.

This one was my first crushed w's blade.

I really like how this one turned out. AEB-L blade, nickel silver guard and spalted maple burl handle.

I designed 4 knives that I call my Covid series. This was the first completed one that I call the Covid Survival.

These are a new model of gut hook knives that I was able to send to the knife store in Estes Park, CO. If sales go well enough, I'll be able to stock more knives there.

This was the last knife I was able to finish for Christmas orders.

And last is the cake knife I made for my son and daughter-in-law's wedding.

An absolutely jaw dropping set of knives - I just sat and starred at each knife and asked "how the hell did he do that".
What an inspiration and how impressive it is for each of you to share your outstanding craftsmanship.
J Doyle how did you get that tiger maple inlay in the handle?

I did a lot of EDC knives this year but two that come to mind were the gamblers Bowie and the Bird And trout I did for a Vietnam vet.

Here are a few of my favorites from 2020. First a knife/fork set made from walnut from my father’s mill.

A small hunter made from oak burl from a buddy of mine. It had a natural bolster.

A fillet knife with a dyed deer antler for the end cap.

My very first pukko.
