How to work with Corian

I received some Corian from Mr.Steve Janik today. This will be my first time using this stuff and was wondering if someone would tell me how this stuff works.
I was just wondering if you cut and sand it like wood.

Thanks for the help.

God bless,Keith

I have seen some knives done with corian but I have never had any luck with it. It is very brittle and chips and cracks easily. White corian is grat for practicing scrimshaw though.

I've used white Corian for inlays and sand and finish it like the rest of the handle. sand to about 600 and buff. It scrims nicely.

Thanks guys,I got them cut out, drilled and counter bored for colby bolts.I'll get it glued up tomorrow
It could all go south, but so far,I like the way this stuff works.

God bless,Keith

BE CAREFULL when you rough grind the handle, the stuff will burn easily. Dont get the bolts/pins too hot, they will give you a nice burn circle- especially with white. Use heavy grit, slow speed, quench often, then go to hand sanding pretty quickly. I wet sand it and it finishes great. It is brittle as was said. Some more than others. No where near as tough as Micarta. I wouldn't whack it on the bench but I like for using kitchen knives. My FIL has a hunter I used it on that he has used for a couple years with no complaints. Blood cleans off easily....
