How Much Polishing is Enough?

A ton of great finishing information on this thread for a new guy. I didn’t know about the going up & coming down in grits for better satin finishes. Explains why I’m not always happy with my finishes, especially for the time snd effort spent!

Hell ya! If you go way past your target grit, it leaves a nice polished look on the areas between the finish scratches, looks a LOT better than just working up to the grit you are looking for.
 
I am old school enough to like a mirror polish......I find grinding to 15 micron on a 3m finishing belt and then going to the buffer will produce a good finish.....I use a few grades of compound on my 1 1/2 hp baldor buffer at 3600 rpm and get a good quality finish
