My name is Paul Walsh. I have been making knives for about 6 months now. I am a third generation knife maker. My grandfather (Irvin Campbell) started in 1967 in Prudoe Bay Alaska (Discovery rig #1). I grew up in his knife shop outside of Moose Pass Alaska (IRBI Knives) currently ran by my uncle Virgil Campbell.
I have been learning the family process from a video my grandfather made in 1989 for my other uncle (maker) Walter Campbell. We have a unique process that does not use any patterns or templates. All hand forged 5160 steel. We allow the knife to create a life of its own. No 2 alike. What is the most unique about our process is the finger gaurds and butt caps. They are hand brazed nickle silver for a seemless fit to the blade.
I am loving the knife making process but still learning the grinder. There is so much good information out there on knife making. I have found this forum to be very helpfull to the new maker.
Take a look at my web site www.pwknives.com and let me know what you think. Any and all advise is much apprediated.
Thanks for looking and helping create a great site.
