Hello everyone, my name is Beau, and I'm from central/northeast Ohio. I've enjoyed knives for many years, but as of recently I've gotten very interested in trying my hand a making my own knives. For the last week or so I've been researching everything I can find about knife making. I've already purchased a few books on the subject, as well as watched as many videos as I can find. I haven't yet started work on my first knife, but I plan to do so very very soon. At this moment I've already got a few tools to help me in the process. At this point I've acquired a band saw to aide in making my handle scales, as well as a belt grinder. Though it's only an 1x42 grinder it should suffice while I'm at the start of this hobby for me. I love working with my hands, and creating knives I believe will be very enjoyable, especially since I can design my own and use my imagination. I've already joined a few other forums, along with this one in hopes of learning everything I can from the pros.

Thanks for the welcome guys, and I'm so ready to get my hands dirty. Getting a bit anxious though lol. I've already been designing knives even though I can't work on anything yet. I've already got a bit more tools than most have when starting. Now I need to get busy and set up my work area. Thanks again for the welcomes.

Big Hoss, you've come to the right spot if your looking to make knives. The help and inspiration here are top notch.

From one begining knifemaker to another, welcome! I've only got a 1x30 belt grinder and for begining I think it works great, it isn't powerfull enough to remove lots of metal, and it's slow, which I think is a great thing to learn on. One thing I did was to make a grinding jig to get the bevels looking good, there's lots of folks who can freehand a bevel, but I got frustrated as I couldn't get a good looking bevel, until I made a grinding jig. Take your time, read all you can and your first knife will look great! Can't wait to see it.

Thanks again for the welcomes all. Zeb I have been definitely reading as much as I can. I've learned tons already, but I know there is much more to learn. I'm getting very anxious to get start, but the area in my garage I plan to setup for my shop is a wreck at the moment. So I need to get busy with reorganizing everything so I have a clean work area. Again thanks for all the welcomes this is a great site.
