That's a very nice unit you built there, Daniel, does not have that "homemade" look to it at all.
 
My father built me one of these to the same spec. It worked ok but then I discovered that I was using the pad wrong when in use.

I used to hold the pad in place and count, then lift the pad but was told this was incorrect. The correct method is to wipe the pad across the stencil and repeat, I think I do around 20 -25 sweeps.

The reason for this is it allows the gases that build up to escape from under the stencil and in doing so it creates a far crisper etch into the metal. I was also told (on here I think ) to paint a dab of meths (think its denatured alcohol in the US ?) onto the stencil before use....that also made a difference.
