Yes robert the sheilds go all the way through, but they are off set on the other side because you create the shields when you do the ferry flip weld. You just have to pay attention where you cut the billet.

I was thinking fossil when I saw this, as two or three other folks have commented. Whatever you want to call it, it is really great -looking damascus!
