Chris’ KITH (For Gene Kimi) DONE

I think it's pretty fantastic. And if you ask me, I have a pretty good eye for these things. :)

The balance of light to dark is on point. It has an "organic geometry" to the pattern.

Thanks guys. I hope to get it through HT tomorrow. I know grinding the bevels will change the pattern somewhat since it is random. We will see...

After looking at your pattern again, it reminds me a bit of designs I've seen on Indian pottery. You could call it the Anazazi. :)

I have not forgotten this project. I have the blade finished sanded and coated in satin clear Gun-Kote. Then my VFD crapped out again so I had to send it back to KB Electronics. (I know it is my inadequate power supply that keeps breaking the VFD so its not KB’s fault). After KB had it for two weeks I called to check on it but they lost my VFD. Tracking said it was delivered but Ms. Ann (very nice lady) said she did not receive it. After a call or two Ann said she would search for the VFD and she found it under a table. So, they should fix it next week sometime. All of this made me decide to bite the bullet and pay someone to upgrade the power in my shop. Then I remembered my friend who literally builds airplanes. I called him and we are installing my sub-panel next week. The good news is, I have gotten a lot of blacksmithing done lately...

My grinder is back in the land of the living and I spoke to the peeps at KB and got clearance to run my grinder off of my inverter generator. Hopefully that is the last 27d I fry. Stay tuned because I have decided on handle material for Gene’s knife and I am gonna try to get it done today.

Here she is, Gene’s new shop knife...Canister Damascus skinning knife. The base is 1084 powder with pure nickel. The add ins are all 10xx series steels. The blade is coated with KG Gun-Kote for almost ZERO maintenance and to protect the etched finish. The handle is solid hand polished Moose Antler, it was literally running around Alaska a year ago. I have a little clean up left to do then its on to the the sheath.

That is looking really good! I have some moose antler that I have been holding off using. I may have to try some of it after seeing this one.
