I worked on making the scales today, i mixed the cherry with some walnut and pecan. I used a new type of black epoxy colorant, i don't think it "pops" like my old stuff. The blavk looks grey. So i made another using my "old stuff". It is in the mold till in the morning...

This one came out like i wanted!
I have worked on the ring a little, ground the blade down some and annealed it over night. I am headed out now to stamp my makers mark on it and put some vine file work on the handle. Hopefully i can get it heat treated today. But i have to stop at 4:00. I have to/want to take my wife out tonight for our 34th wedding anniversary. I don't know how she has put up with my shenanigans for that long!!!

Finished up the vine file work, drilled holes for the scales, normalized it 3 times and quinched it. It is in the tempering oven now. Everything looking good so far!!!

This is after 3, 10 minute ferric chloride sessions and then a 2 hour coffee soak.
Now we have to figure out the handle material. I will get Mark's input on this one!

Did I hear my name? That is so nice. I have been sending the pics to my son to follow along. That pattern is beautiful. As far as the handle goes. I know exactly what I want. I want you to pick it. I struggle with complimenting blades with handle material.

That is just another version of Hawaiian Koa. I like it also!!

Even better. My wife and I are fond of Hawaii. We honeymooned there and promised we would go back on our 10 year anniversary. We are at 36 years and still haven’t made it back so we like to collect items from Hawaii.

It will be a little while before i can get this finished, i have a friend coming in this weekend, i am taking him gator hunting next week and I have to get everything ready for him.
