Thank you! I need to move some of my stuff inside. My mindset was on water lines at my unheated shop.

Yea, I remember some of my leather stuff said they would be ruined if frozen and it's got to be bad for epoxy, as soon as it hits 50 I keep that inside till I need to use it. lately even when I've been epoxing handles up I've been bringing them inside until cured.

We're used to -20s for most winters. In the past 60 years I've lived in Montana, this is the coldest I can recall. Fortunately we didn't get the wind that other parts of the state got, that's when the bulls lose their jewels.

We have 2 portable generators that can handle the house and shop. Fortunately, the outages haven't lasted long enough to fire up the generators... yet.

What's crazy is that by the middle of next week we're suppose to have daytime temps in the 40's, nights in 20-30's.

That's crazy! I keep my shop at 70-72 all year although when I come in sometimes it's in the low 60's (on a really cold night) until I get all the lights and equipment on. But it heats up pretty quick to a comfortable temp. Don't know how some of you guys without heating & cooling do it!

I don’t have HVAC for my shop. Normally I can turn on my electric heater and it will heat it comfortably at around 65. If I want it warmer I’ll run the forge for 10-16 minutes. In the summer I just run floor fans. I move my grinder outside for most of my grinding- just cleaner that way in my shop.
 
We hit -7F overnight. Maybe 2" of snow total. No power outages. 0*F right now at 3:30PM and the wind continues to whip pretty good at times, but this is much better than we were led to expect, so we're quite grateful to Mother Nature right now.
Hope everyone is getting through this OK.

I pray also as well. I’m sure this event will lead to unfortunate loss of life.

It's in the mid teens here right now (just east of Richmond, VA). We had a pretty heavy rain come through here a few days ago. The night before it rained, it was in the 20s, then it was 50's out that day. The condensation on all my tools out by the forge was insane! I had dried the anvil off before I thought to take a picture. It looked like I had just hosed it down. Here's what one of the hammers looked like. (See pic)

You might consider getting some Boeshield T9 for rust protection, and some Rust Free for rust removal. Works great.

Yeah, i get that a lot, too. That’s why i was worried about my vfd and my electric motors at first. I'm not too worried about the controller anymore, its lasted a few interior winters. But when we warm up (from bitter cold to around 0) i do run my motors hoping that will clear any condensation in them - and hope the warmth in the vfd will dry anything out in there. I havent ever tried to open it when we get those warm spells - its usually still cold enough that I don’t want to risk cracking any wires.

ive intended to pick up t9 but haven’t yet as bob’s recommended it before. My grinder has not aged well.

Is this weather almost over for you guys? I heard from a relative in SC it was -5, i think. Crazy.
 
It’s about over here. 25 tonight. And then gradual warming. Hope the arctic chill stays in the arctic.
