Hello everyone I just recently joined. I was wondering if anyone can recommend a good book for a rookie knife maker that covers quenching different kinds of steel and tempering and overheating steel just general things. Thank you so much everyone!

Some people don't like the late Wayne Goddard's style of knives or techniques, but for simple steels he has quite a bit of ht info. in his book The Wonder of Knifemaking.

The Complete Bladesmith: Forging Your Way to Perfection by Jim Hrisoulas has been helpful to me. It has a lot of basic techniques for beginners.

You might like Kevin Cashen's DVD on 1080/1084 - I got it and it's comprehensive, explained a lot more to me than the books I've read. Really helped me grasp the concept and fundamentals of HT. Plus you already know this forum is a virtual encyclopedia of knowledgeable professionals.

Thank you I’ll check it out! I hate bothering people over simple things. I definitely love this forum it’s been awesome so far
