2013 Knife Making Progress

One down, one to go...

It was not fun trying to get the tang flush and even without being able to use the tool rest as a platform...

But it all came out pretty good...

Thanks a bunch, guys! I am very proud of this one.

Good way to end my first year making knives. Well actually, I will have at least one more done after this mammoth tooth knife I am currently working on.

Been a long few days around here. I have been closing down the shop around 4 or 5am for the last few days and have one more to go. But the result of all of the work is paying off. Finished the two mammoth knives, minus sharpening, and am almost done with one of the sheaths. Just need to stitch the first one and make a second, all tonight . You will be seeing quite a few pictures of these over the next few days. Can't help myself...

Its a good feeling to wake up to a knife that is almost done...

You display some serious skills my friend. I love what you are doing. Your evolution as documented in this thread should be an inspiration to new knife makers and veterans as well. To follow you as your aspirations turn into reality has been quite a treat for me. For some reason I knew it would turn out this way.
I salute your efforts for this year and look forward to the year ahead in anticipation of exciting things to come.

Eric, I am speechless. Really means a lot coming from you. Thank you for everything! Looking forward to seeing more of your beautiful work soon.

Took a chunk out of my thumb right at the start of the work day. I was moving a little slower after that, to say the least. I had a bit of hand sanding to do and it just happen to be the spot on my thumb that gets the most used. Cut it on the spine of a knife, too.

Here is what I got done today...

Drilled the holes for the pins and lanyard tube on my knife...

I will grind them tomorrow and put the finishing touches on them before gluing the scales on.

Decided to try the "forced aged" finish on my knife today. This took longer then I thought it was going to, but has been a great learning experience.

After the first round, before the tumbler...

Close to the end...

My knife is in the tumbler for the last time and once it's done, I will post a picture. Unfortunately, I have to work tonight but hope everyone stays safe on this crazy holiday night.

Didn't get exactly what I was after but it was a good experiment. I am going to grind the bevel for a nice contrast. Should look pretty good...
