Mullets
The mullets or gray mullets are a family (Mugilidae) of ray-finned fish found worldwide in coastal temperate and tropical waters, and in some species in fresh water also.[1] Mullets have served as an important source of food in Mediterranean Europe since Roman times. The family includes about 80 species in 17 genera.
Mullets are distinguished by the presence of two separate dorsal fins, small triangular mouths, and the absence of a lateral line organ. They feed on detritus, and most species have unusually muscular stomachs and a complex pharynx to help in digestion.[1]
In otherwords this fish has a gizzard like a chicken and yes they are dern fine eatin ifin you like gizzards and know how to clean them (srape the inner lining off the gizzard and cook them like a regualr chicken gizzard! A friend showed me this way to claen a mullet: break the neck / twist the head off let them bleed out, get them on ice immediately and scrap the black lining from the stomach area and that is the best flavored fish you will ever lay your chops too! That gets rid of all that stong taste some find offensive!
