    W2

I have blades of 52100 at Rc62 and they are easier to hand finish than the W2 at 61-63.

    W2

I finally decided to try some W2 and see how it is to work with. When it came time to finish the tempered blades, I quickly found out, forget the hand rubbed finish!!! What a PITA to finish, wound up with a 400 grit belt and then a scotch brite belt.

    S35vn

This is a question for those who have used quite a bit of S35VN. What hardness have you gotten the best edge retention with? The last 3 blades I made from this steel, I had hardened to 60 by Bos Heat Treating and neither one of them holds an edge very long. One is a kitchen knife and one small...

My Knives Scales are Falling Off...

I have had two kitchen knife scales that was done with Devcon 2 turn loose on the ends after around 5 years of use. That is the only epoxy that I have had turn loose. I think the Corbys are pretty much fool proof if done right.

    Crystal coat

Have any of you ever tried a product called Crystal Coat on knife handles? This is supposed to be used on furniture as a finish coat and also on pens made from different kinds of wood. I had a fellow tell me he really likes it and the way it holds up.

    Malasian blackwood

Mike I heard back from a couple of other guys that said they had used it and that it is a good wood for handles. One guy said that he uses it in place of African Blackwood.

Has anyone here had any experience using Malasian Blackwood for knife handles? Any drawbacks? I know that this wood is used to make guitars.

    Carbon fiber

Put the scales on and then had to go out of town for a few days and started working on it today (Sun.). Ed, you hit the nail on the head when you said "NASTY". This is my first time to use it and if I have any say, it will be the last.

    Carbon fiber

I have never worked with carbon fiber before and today I buffed the end of a pair of scales that will go toward the ricasso area. I saw pretty quickly that I will have a black buffing wheel by the time I get these things finished. What I am wondering is does anyone know of a feasable way to get...
