    buffalo horn handle

I finally cut on the horn today. I have to say there was more solid horn than I had thought there might be. I measured inside with a skewer and made my first cut within a 1/4" of where it turned solid. There ended up being about 12" of hollow and over 18" of solid horn. I have a piece ground to...

    buffalo horn handle

Ed, unfortunately I knew of most of these issues. However, the whole purpose of the knife was to commemorate the hunt. No horn, no knife. I have (and will again) explain that things will move. I have been tossing around the idea of fluting the seem at each end of the horn to help disguise the...

    buffalo horn handle

I have a gentleman wanting me to make him a knife using horn from a water buffalo that he shot for the handle. I have had the blade ready for some time but just this week now have the horn in hand. Is there enough here to get a handle? :les: Seriously though, I have very little experience with...

What's going on in your shop?

Thanks Aaron! I did mine similar to yours, save I used separate pieces of leather for the strap and loop. It's purely personnel preference but I dislike having the flesh side exposed on the folded over loop. I've not worn these to see if they have the same issues as you mentioned. I guess I...

Even I saw that coming when he started tapping on the anvil. J Neilson even commented about overheating the tip as he was forging. Chris

What's going on in your shop?

Well they aren't nearly as cool as Play Dohmascus, but here are a couple I've been working on that are finally finished now that the sheaths are done. My take on the Shrade Sharpfinger and my first time with this style of sheath. Thanks for looking, Chris

    Round Knife Design

Finished a couple slips for 2 of the knives. They turned out well I think. The walnut handled knife won't come out unless you want it to and it takes some pretty vigorous upside down shaking to get the other to come loose(the bolsters make it at least half again heavier than the other). Chris

    Electro Etching Makers Mark

I also made my own earlier this year using Earnie Grospitch's and Chris Crawford's plans. Think I spent about $100 by the time I bought the etching solution. I had been using a battery charger and the difference is night and day. I haven't used a professional machine either so no comparison. As...

    Rust!!!!!!! Arghhhh!!!!!!!!

I recently made a concoction of 1 part beeswax and 3 parts coconut oil upon recommendation for a leather finish on another forum. The wax seals and water resists the leather and the oil makes the mixture melt for application at a much lower temperature. This thread has me thinking why wouldn't a...

Show etiquette for my first show

Thanks fellas. To be perfectly honest Ken. I was hesitant to post that photo because of how well the prices showed for fear I was way off base. Thank you, I at least know I'm in the ballpark for where I should be. As for the show, today was even worse than yesterday, but I guess that means...
