    Some recent sheaths

Here are a few I did recently. That last picture (#4) is of a knife that came to me for a sheath and it is one of those knives that just really clicks when you see it.....so I picked it up from the maker at Blade this year about 3 minutes after the show opened. I didn't want to take any...

    Oiling/waxing leather sheath

Mook, pay attention to Tracy and Dave (DC). You don't EVER want to SOAK a sheath in anything, particularly oil or wax or oil AND wax. Even dipping it briefly is, in my opinion forbidden. If you do you will get way more on and in than you can ever wipe off. Be warned! Paul

    Dying leather

I'm with Dave on this one. I don't and won't use the Eco Flo. The only dyes I use are Feibing's Professional Oil Dye in dark Brown or Black, but I should also mention that I don't use dye period.....except on finished edges. I buy my leather pre dyed at the tannery, and if you use enough to...

    New guy incoming!

David, that particular basket weave stamp was made by Wayne Jueschke, of Elko, NV. 775 738 4885 is the most current phone number I have on file. Wayne is more of a custom maker with only about 40 tools in his stable. It is my favorite basket weave stamp because it is small and gives a very...

    Traditional knife sheaths

The idea of selling a knife and/or with a sheath is taking hold rapidly. I make sheaths for quite a large number of makers and the common theme is becoming that the knives are easier to sell as a package with a sheath. Now since this is becoming more and more fact, it follows that the quality...

Tandy's granite slabs and poundo boards

All of the above is very true story. Most counter top places have quite a bit of scrap at either very cheap or the best FREE. My only problem was I needed some much thicker pieces than the counter top folks generally have. I like 2 to 3 inches thick for tooling, skiving etc. If you need...

    Little help with an inlay

Here's a technique for you guys to chew on. I have a splitter, but I also buy 2/3 oz. leather that exactly matches the 7/8 oz. leather I regularly use in my sheaths. The sheath in the picture below is several layers of leather counting the front, Chevron, welt and back. The chevron and the...

    New guy from Texas

Hello, I just joined up a few minutes ago after finding a link to this forum on another site. Some of you may know me from other sites as "sheathmaker", but I decided to go with my real name over here....Paul Long. Looks like a great neighborhood, and I'm looking forward to participating. Paul
