Photos for 2011 Knife Dog Awards (NEXT YEAR)

Kevin Casey just dropped a few bombshells over in the Custom Knife subforum... it was difficult to pick a favorite. I think I'll go with the linerlock on the left (is that mammoth???)... the way the feathered blade flows into the bolster is way cool. Sorry I don't have all of the specs on this...

want to try a balisong and need a duide or tutorial

It's difficult to find great bali making tutorials out there... and everyone does things slightly different. There used to be a decent tutorial from Terry Guinn on EDCKnives.com. It looks like it has been vanished... at least I couldn't find it anymore. Ruben Calo has a basic bali tutorial on...

    Drawing a Bowie blade?

+1 French Curves... very useful for developing and cleaning up a design.

    First japanese tanto WIP

BOOM! +1... Re-HT is no big deal. Definitely worth it. I'm no expert, but I do work with 1095 and W2 frequently for creating hamons. If a hamon doesn't work, then re-apply clay and go at it again.

Is re-HT not an option? You may have posted your location earlier and I missed it (it is not in your profile), but maybe there is somebody close by who can help out. Did you post the steel type anywhere?... I couldn't find that either. That hamon is much to close to the edge for my liking...

    Pocket Clips - correct metal?

I just use a map torch... get it orange at the bend location and bend away. Thinner sections or large radius bends can be done without heat, but tight radius bends can crinkle or separate without it. This has been my experience anyway. Erin

    Balisong #58 finished

Very nice work Chuck... love the clean lines. Nice how you managed to minimize the real estate taken by the zen stops in the blade by keeping your pins very close to the edge of the handles. What hardware are you using for your zen pins? Erin

    Pocket Clips - correct metal?

I'm no expert, but I use 0.050" 6al-4v titanium for my clips. It makes for a nice rigid clip but does require a little heat for bending sharp corners. Erin

    Knife #21 - Long-Clip Recurve Bowie

Mark, Eric and paps... Thanks for the kind words. I'm trying to improve and stretch myself with every knife. I learned a thing or two on this knife that should help me out in the future... if only I can remember them. ;) :shush: Brad... it's funny, but I didn't notice a huge change by...

    Knife #21 - Long-Clip Recurve Bowie

{cross-posted w/ BF} Good morning Dogs. I just finished this knife a couple of days ago and knocked-out some photos in the last 24 hours. Once again, I'm going to apologize for the images. I keep thinking that I'm going to get better at this whole photography thing, but the camera bites me...

Thanks for the info Boss. I figured Tapatalk would be a bit more plug-and-play than that... guess I was wrong. I appreciate your work on this. Erin

Android app for knife dogs.com here!

Hey Boss, First off, I'd like to thank you for taking steps to make the forum more accessible to us iPhone carriers. We appreciate it. I have noticed, however, that the new iPhone app has trouble accessing linked images. It seems like attached KnifeDogs hosted images are OK... but images...

New watch - #18 The Apollo

Very cool Ondrej. I am always fascinated by the precision work that must go into one of your watches. The damascus is cool, and the meteorite face is an awesome idea. If you ever want to document the construction of one of these as a WIP, I - for one - would be paying attention. Erin

    Knife #20 - New Concepts/Learning Process

{Cross-posted with BF} Hey dogs... I've been sitting on this one for awhile. I was really excited about trying some new things... but translating them from my head to reality was trickier than I had planned. I made a few mistakes along the way, but ended up with a knife that I liked enough...
