Well, if you need somebody to test screen the videos, let me know. :3: :9: And if you ever make it out to the Seattle show, I'd love to pick your brain. Erin

^ This... after struggling with my last photo shoot, this would be a blessing. Erin

So you'll probably notice that I haven't posted any finished photos yet... ... I tried... I really did. This is a cool knife in my biased opinion. I feel like it's right up there as one of my best... and I was stoked to photograph it as soon as it was complete, but... ... I spent like three...

Yeah... I know. Some of the photos aren't linking reliably. All links worked yesterday... then some didn't... then they did... then others didn't. I'm thinking that the Flickr guys are throwing down keg-stands in the server room. I don't even know what this means. I feel that maybe you...

Back at it with some disjointed photos. PHOTO 59 (Wasted Photo) After the trauma with my previous blade polish, I decided that I needed to focus in a new direction to regain my mojo. Nothing says I can't put the blade on hold for a few days and give the handle some attention instead... so...

:s12137: It's just warm vinegar and soap honey... it's like I'm cleaning and disinfecting the dish at the same time. I should be commended.

Thanks guys... I'll try to keep this going. Now that was funny. The last weeks have been a loss for knifemaking. As mentioned in the last installment, my family was in town for Valentine’s Day weekend, making it near impossible to spend any time in the shop. But that’s OK… I DID get to...

PHOTO 45 (Frame) I selected a block of stabilized Karelian Birch (from Mark at Burl Source) for the handle because I think it will look good with the copper and the black frame & wrap. Mark had quite a bit of this wood for sale a few years back… I bought three blocks, but wish I had gotten...

PHOTO 39 (Lovely) There's something quite lovely about freshly milled copper. I have a large plate of this stuff and nibble pieces off as necessary. When preparing blocks for spacers, I find it is best to leave them oversized… especially in the front and back. This allows more...

Thanks for the kind words guys. It's true... I have been blessed in many ways, including number and coolness of toys. My current challenge is to finish and sell a few knives so I can buy an optic for my new AR. My wife is a saint. This is why it takes me forever to build...

A few more photos for today. PHOTO 33 (Milling) I don’t know why, but I really like this image. Milling the guard/tsuba. In this photo, I have already milled the slot, and am now taking the guard down to the correct thickness. A smart person would have reversed this order of operations...

Hey Paul... thanks man. Yeah, I'm still planning to do some sort of kissaki... similar to what I did HERE and HERE. With these long kissakis, I find that the yokote ends up being mostly cosmetic... an artifact of using two different methods for final polishing in each area. I won't be...

PHOTO 26 (Spine Cleanup) Fresh pink filters and some cleanup on the spine… what a beautiful day. PHOTO 27 (Back Rub) The grinder can do the rough-cleanup of the spine fairly quickly… but it can leave a rippling unevenness to the finish. It’s like knife cellulite. Here I’m...

Psh... hipsters and their lattes. Losers. I'm more of a frappuccino guy myself.:shush: ... and if I keep to my current build pace, the kids may be graduating from college by the time I finish it. "Cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon... Little boy blue and the man in the...

Strip of black electrical tape on the surface plate. I cut it into narrow strips with an exacto and use it to mask spacers/guards when I dial-in the handle material during final shaping. I'll try to remember to photograph that step when I get to it.

PHOTO 18 (Failure) Am sad that the first heat treat went all ugly. This defective hamon gets weird toward the tang... but even worse than that is the ugly bit right at the tip. I'm not excited to have to redo it… but I'd never be happy if I left it as is. I think that my soak temp...

PHOTO 9 (It’s hip to be…) Squaring up the work rest on the flat platen so I can clean up the blade profile. This will give me a clean surface with a perpendicular scratch pattern on which to scribe center-lines, etc. It looks like somebody may be trying to slip me a note under the door...
