    Wooden sword vs. Slingsword

Some of y'all may (or may not) recall a few years ago I built an 18" sword blade for Joerg Sprave, the German mad genius of creative and deadly slingshots and other unconventional weapons. He built a handle for the blade that (of course) incorporated a slingshot...

    Big ol' Bowie

This Bowie was commissioned by a customer who saw a similar one I had done last year. I had traced it out, so I used that to make a pattern, but tweaked on it a bit. It has a wider handle, which I like better. The steel is 1/4" 80CrV2 steel, with TeroTuf handle scales and flared stainless...

Zombie Killer Bush Swords, with forging and cutting video(s)

Here's the cutting video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gvlknRrWrQk That's some pretty good-sized mesquite that has been seasoning since it blew down in a big windstorm just before the Blade Show, so it was plenty hard. The ring of the blows echoed from the hills (literally) as I chopped...

Zombie Killer Bush Swords, with forging and cutting video(s)

Chris Thorn of the YouTube channel Drop Forged Survival has been doing a series of videos featuring the (fairly numerous) custom knifemakers around south Texas, including my buddy Tobin Nieto making and testing a seax with an elk leg bone handle. Chris also filmed me making a bush sword, as...

    Hemp wrap question

I usually just do one layer of hemp, with the bulk of the handle built up by the foundation layers (leather or neoprene). Of course, hemp cord comes in a wide range of thicknesses.

    Sniper Aggression and Benghazi Warfighter

Dang, Raymond! Don't think there's any way I'd toss one of mine off a helicopter. I'd leave it behind at base once I got back if anything. :( Would love to see what your work from then looked like.

    Sniper Aggression and Benghazi Warfighter

Raymond - Hah! :) The name comes from a series of big knives I've made. A Ranger sniper wanted a variation for himself, hence the name. But yes, this would be the sniper's secondary aggression.

    Sniper Aggression and Benghazi Warfighter

Thanks, John! That was pretty much the idea when the first one was ordered. The sniper who ordered it wanted to use it to make sniper hides and have as a backup weapon if need be. Like he said, he already had clippers but those sucked as a weapon and weren't nearly badass enough. :D

    Sniper Aggression and Benghazi Warfighter

Thanks, Walt! The Benghazi Warfighter is a long-term refinement of a knife I originally built for an airman to take with him on his SERE training. Since then I've ended up building a fair number for current and former military.

    Sniper Aggression and Benghazi Warfighter

Some recently finished blades, all in 80CrV2 steel, with marine epoxy-impregnated paracord over neoprene handle wraps and Kydex sheaths. This blade was commissioned by a customer that wanted a rig similar to one I built for an Army sniper, as a gift for his dad. The blade is 12 1/2" long, with...

Little Rok, tantos, and Benghazi Warfighters

Some work that went off to customers this past month. All of 'em are 80CrV2 blades with paracord over neoprene handles and Kydex sheaths. First off, a Little Rok with exposed butt that went to a Georgia state trooper. This had a 5.5" blade, longer than usual for that style. Next, a 6"...

Double-edged meat cleaver, carcass splitter, short sword re-wrap, etc.

Thanks, Tai! Gotta say, been missing seeing your work. It's always an inspiration. :)

Double-edged meat cleaver, carcass splitter, short sword re-wrap, etc.

Some of the work that I've completed in the last few months that hasn't gotten posted yet: This double-edged meat cleaver was built as close as possible to a sketch sent to me by the customer. I'm pretty pleased (and so is he!) with how closely I was able to get to what he drew. The blade is...
