    Sambar EDC

No secrets here. The tang does not go all the way through. It goes about 3/4 into the stag. I am going to put a pin in it more than likely. The butt is just carved out and another piece of Damascus inserted in there. I do not like pith showing. I was trying to showcase as much of the stag...

    Sambar EDC

Thanks guys. I am working out the kinks. For another few in the works and one mishap to correct. I could not find the guard on another knife and saw it hanging in the ferric after it was there for about 20 hours! All that work just destroyed.

I hear the sentinel is desired by some folks. The tap is just simple and clean as I have that to speak of, but the folks at kiln frog thought highly of the Bartlett controllers.

    Jen-Ken

I was going to order one today and then I had a water leak distract me. This afternoon, someone an hour away posted an oven almost new, so I hopped on it. Saves me money and I can have it tomorrow night rather than waiting.

I make mostly hidden tang knives and nothing needing foil yet, so was thinking just drill a hole and hang it. Decisions decisions! I like this, but have to back down to a 110 oven. I hate spending too much money when losing a job in a couple months. Thanks!

you have the 21? I don’t know what they cost to rub, but assume a few dryer loads equivalent. Good idea to not run a single if you can, but should be fine. Assume the cool down is a problem with them all. I need to get something and this requires me to have a breaker added, so trying to...

    Jen-Ken

I would guess the cool down is a problem with them all, so not just this one? Sure. You hang the blades so there is no contact with any surface, which seems like the best possible option. Ideally that is a very even heat, but not sure if it is better or so close to other styles that it...

    Jen-Ken

Seems all the talk is about Evenheat and Paragon, but the Jen-Ken vertical air bath kilns seem ideal. Am I missing something? Talk me off the cliff or I am ordering this week.

First try with San mai. WIP

If it makes you feel better, when I first ground it, it was way uneven. I spent four or five more grinding sessions to get it there. It is not 100% even, but about 97%. Good news is that it is hard to tell. I was amazed at how difficult that was.

Test etch to make sure the center layer was in the center! Getting closer.

If you would like to take your Guard/spacer/handle fit up to the next level...

His video that was shared was just the cheaper way to do something. He had other videoes where he just mills all four sides of the ricasso and fits it flat, instead of this method. When I do this with files, my fits is still not perfect. Ain’t terrible, but I usually end up with a hump and...

    GKimmi's 2020 KITH

I agree the way you are trying it is better, but I always wonder what would happen when the color wears off. Mine is a hidden tang and in theory I can dip it and avoid wood being touched if I am careful. I really want to try grinding some areas shiny on one and see if I like the contrast, but...

    GKimmi's 2020 KITH

Everything I read says that ferric Does not affect epoxy, so is it an option to dip after assembly? I think the wood is the only concern? Still learning and I am about to dip a finished knife to see what happens. I gotta know the answer.

    Couple more getting close

You can ask anything you want. I am still learning everything, but will share what I know. I am probably good to ask because I am so new to it. I like big knives and so I did this to try both again, and I still find larger is easier for me.
